52nd Grammys Shone Bright With AHD Projection

Spectacular performances and exciting wins by artists like Beyoncˇ, Taylor Swift, Green Day, and Kings of Leon made the 52nd annual Grammy Awards a memorable and historic night.

Kicked-off with a comedic monologue by Stephen Colbert, later to win a Grammy for Best Comedy Album, then followed by the opening performance by Lady Gaga joined onstage by Elton John, the show was as visually dramatic as it was musically.

"We had 7 Christie HD18 projectors above the stage," said American Hi Definition's Ady Gil, "and we used [268] 8.75mm LED panels onstage and [172] 18.75 LED panels for closedown walls."

This marked the tenth Grammy Awards show that AHD has been a part of. Sister company Sweetwater Digital built a special 3D Steadicam rig and put together the 3D broadcast control equipment for one of the night's standout segments, a moving and poignant tribute to Michael Jackson, broadcast in 3D.

Another breathtaking highlight of the evening was an aerial act by Pink performing her hit "Glitter in the Air." Beyoncˇ was the first female artist in Grammy history to take home six awards in one night and Bon Jovi helped make Grammy history by performing a medley that included "Living on a Prayer," chosen by an online voting contest while the show was in-progress.
